There can be times when we have difficulty coping, or life seems to lose it's meaning. The trigger could be memories of the past, painful events in the present or worries about the future.
Anxiety, Depression, problems with relationships bereavement, divorce and the stresses and strains of everyday life can all take their toll. At other times we can feel as though we are aimless and our life lacks purpose. it can be difficult to confide in family or friends.
In these situations, it can be helpful to talk to someone who is trained to listen without judging you or trying to influence your decision-making.
A counsellor can give you the time and space to explore your concerns, enabling you to make the changes necessary to move forward in your life.
To empower the client to have the potential to work through their issues to lead a more fulfilling life, given the right climate and therapeutic relationship. This enhances an individuals mental and physical well being. Often we experience Stress, trauma, illness and are unsure why we are unable to regain strength or why we continue in a cycle of illness and depression. When emotional needs are not met or when our resources are used incorrectly, we suffer considerable distress. When we start to look at our resources and unmet emotional needs and start activating our own natural resources in new ways we then regain mental and physical well being.
Many individuals have 'formed' themselves by trying to please others but when they are free, they move away from being this person as they have a stronger understanding of now who they truly are.
Hello, my name's Gabby and I am a BACP registered humanistic counsellor. To me this means each of us need to be seen as individuals and within the context of our own environment. How we experience things on a personal level is what is important in our work together. Therefore my goal is to see the world through your eyes.
Having previously worked in very pressurised and fast paced environments, I have been able to hugely benefit from talking with counsellors and as part of my own training have experienced many years of talking therapies.
I know on a personal level how hard it is to pluck up the courage and contact someone to speak about your struggles, and the pain and confusion that life can bring. That's why I believe that you must feel comfortable, safe and in a trusted environment when talking about your problems. Therefore I always recommend an initial appointment to see how you feel when we're together and with the way I work. Then we can discuss how we may move forward together and if this feels right for you. I aim to provide an environment where we can meet each other as two human beings, and talk openly and honestly about our work together.
Awareness of what we are experiencing and what our individual needs are can help with changes, as well as understanding how we have the ability, freedom and choice to make those changes. Through conversation and meaningful interactions we can work collaboratively to explore different ways of coping, begin to make life happier and to encourage growth.
I have experience in supporting people with relationship struggles, trauma, anxiety and phobias, depression, shame, chronic illness/pain, eating disorders, bereavement, neglect, abuse, and life changes such as divorce, unemployment, diagnoses and having children.

I have worked as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist since 2001. My abilities as a therapist have benefitted greatly from working in NHS, Clinical Psychology, Education, Employee Assistance Programs and Substance Misuse settings. I have experience of helping people with an extensive range of issues. My approach is evidence based, on research from psychology and neuroscience. I will help you develop the practical skills that research shows to be effective in untangling ourselves from emotional distress.
My aim is to develop an open, trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationship with you. I aim to help you develop the practical skills necessary to reduce your negative emotions and to direct your life towards greater personal fulfilment, replacing limiting life patterns with greater harmony with yourself and others. I offer both long and short term therapy.
For as long as I can remember I have been intrigued by the age old question, of how do we create a happy and fulfilling life? I believe that neurosciences study of the relationship between the brain and the mind have provided the most convincing answers to this most enduring of questions. These new discoveries have helped us to realise that many of the things we do to improve the quality of our lives don’t actually help. And in the long term they often make things worse. This goes some way in explaining why many people spend years trying to improve the quality of their lives without success. In our attempts to live better we all too often unknowingly do the wrong things, although for the right reasons.
My approach is based on what neuroscience has revealed about how to live happier more fulfilling lives. I will help you learn the practical skills that clinical trials have shown to have positive and lasting effects on our mental health. The aim of my work isn’t solely to reduce negative emotions, but to help direct you towards greater life fulfilment. I believe living well isn’t solely the reduction of suffering but also feeling fulfilled.
As our mental well-being is so intimately connected to our physical well-being, these changes can help us maintain our physical as well mental health. By reducing toxic stress that has a negative effect on both the body and the mind, helping restore our natural body rhythms of sleep, appetite and recovery.
I will support you to develop the necessary skills to overcome your personal difficulties. Working together we will bridge the gap between where you find yourself in life, and where you would want to be. As your therapist, I will support you in developing the necessary skills for life to flow more naturally. Therapy is an opportunity for you to develop greater clarity of mind, to see through the psychological fog, which will enable you to see how to establish the life you want for yourself. Therapy is a space within which you can find greater personal freedom.
